kickball-ABCDEFGHIJKickball

Every single review of this band seems to include the word "awkward" at least half a dozen times. From my perspective ( the non-show goers perspective:( ), this doesn't seem like an altogether just description, again judging by only the album. However, to claim that there is no such element present would be a lie.

Think of this as a cross between Algernon and Minus The Bear.

First track is sooooooo fucking good

Before the Dawn Heals Us - M83

I made an M83 post a couple of months ago. I realise now that I should've posted this album then instead. Not to belittle that post in anyway, but Before The Dawn Heals Us is far more magical than Saturdays = Youth. It's almost Floydian and some songs remind me of scenes in a Lynch movie. In short, get this album if you're a fan of artists such as Slowdive and the like.

hymie's basement-s/t

What the fuck is anticon? I've no idea, but it seems to label this record so I'm all for it. 2 guys rapping over awesome indie-ish beats. As expected, lyrical content on this one is on the intellectual side. Do enjoy, this might be the last post for some time, exams coming up.

Built To Spill

Gonna skip through a thorough description this time around. Here's some good indie music.
LIYL: Pavement, Treepeople

some kind of cadwallader

this band certainly is a guilty pleasure of mine. Emo(more like emo in the vein of cap'n jazz then anything) band from philly. Some nice indieish melodies combined with annoying wails.

warpaint- exquisite corpse

Indie/post-rock/shoegaze/psychedelic all girl-band. I don't think any description I can come up with will do this record justice. Listen and make your own judgements.

Bon Iver

Ever wondered what staying in a cabin in Wisconsin during winter while gazing out into the snow feels like? This is it. Bon Iver's For Emma, Forever Ago is a testament to "all of his personal trouble, lack of perspective, heartache, longing, love and guilt". It's a beautiful, simple and heartfelt record.

lou barlow- goodnight unknown

Haven't had much time to peek in here as of late, never mind find new music and chill, what with trying to get my little music project off the ground(writing lyrics is proving to be a bit tougher than I expected, so everything's instrumental until I write something that's less skeptical), playing borderlands with my awesome brother and reading 12 chairs(Ilf/Petrov) and watching it's equally hilarious movie adaptation, and finishing up with my university applications. So I figure that I'm going to increase the frequency of my posts, since I'm not going to be posting much between April-June.

Arguably one of the fore-runners of the indie genre, we really know what to expect from Lou Barlow. More of the same lo-fi sound with dangling guitar tones yet also accentuated with subtle changes like a swirl effect in the title track. As usual, awesome song-writing and awesome lyrics. Perfect for both lo-fi newbie's and bonafide long-time fans.

Deerhunter

I only just got around to checking this band out and only, in all honesty, because they share their moniker with one of my favourite films of all time. Deerhunter are an ambient/experimental/shoegaze/indie act from Atlanta and they are good. Microcastles features some really beautiful songs and you'll be glad you checked these guys out. Have fun.

Darklands

I can't for the life of me figure out why I haven't made a post concerning The Jesus And Mary Chain till now. Probably one of my favourite bands in the whole indie/alternative/post-punk scene (which isn't really saying much considering I know like...5), TJMAC are not often heard of when one mentions bands of that specific time period by other than real indie music fans. The album we have here is Darklands which is a great album yet never achieved the status or praise that is usually accorded to Psychocandy. That's enough introduction from me at this point so here's the link. Enjoy.

I Can Hear The Heart Beating As One

Now, I'm quite aware that I might be entering hipster territory with this here post but I just couldn't help myself. Yo La Tengo are a talented bunch from Hoboken, NJ who make music that truly gives me a fuzzy feeling. I've listened to this album countless times and it has had something special in store for me every single time. Check them out if you're a fan of Pavement and/or Sonic Youth.

Henry's Dress

Noise/indie from San Francisco. Alternating male/female vocals and very lo-fi.

Beirut

Pretty famous (albeit not as famous as some of us would like) one-man indie/folk project. One of my favourite artists of all time.

M83-Saturdays=Youth

This album has been in my library for at least a year so I'm pretty surprised at myself for not putting this up earlier. Albeit little more "pop"-ish than M83's previous records, this still has copious amounts of dreamy shoegaze influences to sleep to or listen to on a flight.

Japandroids

"Japandroids (JPNDRDS) are a two piece band from Vancouver, BC. This ‘band’ started in 2006 as a creative outlet for the post-teenage [HOW THE FUCK CAN IT BE POST-TEENAGE IF THEY’RE POST-NOTHING] angst of Brian King and David Prowse. Originally intended to be a trio, the boys decided to forgo the logistical nightmare of having a ‘lead singer’ and do it themselves. As a consequence, Japandroids were/are/will be 1 guitar, 1 set of drums, and 2 vocalizers. They call it garage rock. They don’t care what you call it, as long as it’s not minimal. Japandroids are maximal - a two piece band trying to sound like a five piece band."

Couldn't have said it better myself. Here's their latest, Post-Nothing.

LSD and the Search for God

Here's a self titled "album" (more like a collection of 5 songs, really) by a shoegaze/noise band from Cali. I don't know why they haven't released any more. For all I know they could have disbanded by now. Anyway, check them out if you're into Thrushes or just fuzzy shoegaze stuff in general.

The National

Should shit get too crazy for you due to the insanity of mathrock, here's some laid-back indie music from one of my favourite bands, The National. Enjoy.

Ladytron

If you're into electronica/indie, then Ladytron's the band for you. Not exactly unknown but not very mainstream either. Anyway, they come from Liverpool, England and are pretty good.

Witching Hour

Get past Ladytron's aloof exterior on this album and you'll discover bristling guitars that anchor the most pneumatic of beats--and supremely catchy songs that pulse with life.

Velocifero
This album embodies the highlights of the band's past work, and is imbued with the progressiveness that has made each successive Ladytron release a step above its predecessor. Loadsa catchy tunes on this one. I've even included a Toxic Avengers remix of "Ghost", just as an extra goodie. ;)
