Unsane + Keelhaul
This post is in honor of this awesome show that I'm going to tomorrow (Unsane playing all of Scattered, Smothered & Covered goddamn!).
The first part of the post is Unsane's classic '95 album Scattered, Smothered & Covered. For those of you who don't know, Unsane are a noise rock/hardcore band formed in '88 and based in New York City.
The next part of this post is Keelhaul's Subject to Change Without Notice. Again, for those of you who don't know, Keelhaul are a mix of sludge and progressive (I want to say math rock but I haven't listened to much of it to know what it is) with some hardcore/post-hardcore thrown in for good measure.
p.s. Also playing at the show are Disappearer and Pigs. Haven't listened to much of Disappearer's work so I can't tell you if they're good or not.
p.p.s. if you're in the NYC area and you dig any of these bands (or if you just got into them because of this post lol), do show up at Santos Party House tomorrow for some good times!

Buzzov•en - Sore
Buzzov•en (not nearly as annoying to google as this guy) are a sludge band from North Carolina who sing about all the usual sludge stuff like hate, depression and struggles of life. They're without a doubt one of my favourite bands in the genre along with Eyehategod & Weedeater but they never seemed to attract the same amount of attention those guys seemed to get. Their album Sore comes at you screaming and thrashing, interspersed with feedback and movie samples. You can really feel where they're coming from when you read the liner notes of the album which shed light on their heroin/crack habits, the several periods of homelessness and their slight insanity. All in all, this is some good shit. Cop it and try to get the cd if you can.
p.s. this is the correct spelling so if you're anal about how your music should be sorted, tag them like "Buzzov•en".
p.p.s. these fuckers are BACK! they're going to be playing 5 dates in the USA so if you're there, check them out! tour poster.

electric horsemen- ep
Just a quick post before I go finish up studying for my particle physics exam.
Some excellent sludge here, constant circulation on my ipod.
Vocals vary from being very Baroness-like to straight-up growls. Very, very nice and again, very much worth your time.

damd-burning cold
Damad (1992-2001) is a southern down-tuned crust-metal crossover band from the USA (Savannah, Georgia). Headed by female vocalist Victoria Scalisi, this outfit was easily one of the most talented and listenable underground punk/metal bands of the late 90s and early century. In 2001 ex-members of Damad formed Kylesa & Karst

hangman's chair-(a lament for...the addicts)

Stumbled upon this on my ipod today, coming back from school. Fantastic french stoner rock, but not strictly stoner rock. More like downtuned, overdriven and finally sludgey, for lack of a better word, stoner rock. dl

Chapter Ahead Being Fake
This is a Boris/Torche split. As soon as I heard of this, I HAD to have it. The funny thing about the split is that Boris and Torche seem to have swapped their roles musically. To elucidate, Boris play a more "accessible" form of their music (even moreso than Heavy Rocks or Pink) and Torche play some of the heaviest sludge stuff I have ever heard from them. All in all, it's a pretty decent split so check it out. The physical copy is some kind of collector's item so you can imagine how difficult it will be to obtain. With that said, if anyone reading has it, CONTACT ME IMMEDIATELY!
Tracklist:
1- Luna (Boris)
2-King Beef (Torche)

Lesbian
There, that should guarantee us an ass-load of hits.
So anyhoo, great band on HolyMountain that plays a brand of doomy psychedelic metal, if anything. The lengthy tracks might put you off at first, but have a bit of patience, sit through the entire album, and enjoy.

Wormwood
So I've been meaning to post this release some time ago, but Fight Night Round Fucking 4 has been eating up much of my time lately. So, anyhoo, there exists a band called Wormwood. They play sludgey doom . Now that I've your attention, this is one of the very few bands, IMO, that actually manage to create music that seems to take you to another place, if you will. Very much worth your time.

static tensions

Man, oh man, I forgot how awesome this album was until I stumbled upon it on my iPod today on the bus. Fucking incredible stuff, really psyched to see them live in London later this month, especially if they decide to show up with 2 drummers. You want sludge? Listen to Kylesa, simple as that.

2 birds...
So I haven't posted something in a while, mainly because...well, fuck it, I don't even know. Anyway here are 2 different releases by 2 different bands I've only recently bothered to check out.
First:

Rosetta is a band that I should've listened to way earlier, given my worship of bands such as Neurosis and Isis (Neurisis lolol) and Rosetta being bang in the middle of them, in terms of their music. The Galilean Satellites has an epic theme: the satellites of Jupiter (as the astronomers among you may have deduced). The interesting thing about this album is that it was released as a 2-disc record, one disc with the crushingly heavy stuff and the other with the much softer, ambient stuff. This is an obvious homage to Neurosis's Times of Grace (and Tribe of Neurot's Grace), one of my favourite albums ever. The link is both the discs put together, as I believe that is how it's meant to be played and you will enjoy it far more.

Next:

Here we have Torche, a relatively new sludge band. Meanderthal is an amazing album, that has all of the "crush" that so many of us are familiar with when it comes to sludge, as well as melody, harmony, clean vocals and rhythms. Don't worry, it's still very, very heavy but also incredibly groovy.
