I made an M83 post a couple of months ago. I realise now that I should've posted this album then instead. Not to belittle that post in anyway, but Before The Dawn Heals Us is far more magical than Saturdays = Youth. It's almost Floydian and some songs remind me of scenes in a Lynch movie. In short, get this album if you're a fan of artists such as Slowdive and the like.

Here's the aptly-named Taking Drugs to Make Music to Take Drugs to, an unoffical album that consists of demos from Sound of Confusion, the neo-psychadelic/shoegaze band's debut album. It really is very nice and fuzzy so do listen to it.

Souvenirs D'un Autre Monde - Alcest

Shoegaze and black metal would usually be considered to be on completely different pages but not so for Neige of Alcest. Neige (of Peste Noire and Amesoeurs fame) formed Alcest back in 1999 but originally as a solo project. When fellow Peste Noire member Hegnor and Arguth joined him, the band released a more or less straightforward black metal demo entitled Tristesse Hivernale which was very different from what followed. In 2007, Alcest released the beautiful Souvenirs D'un Autre Monde, an album that's simply ethereal. Fusing black metal riffs (albeit a few) with dreamy shoegaze melodies and acoustic guitars all topped off with an even dreamier voice, Souvenirs D'un Autre Monde is definitely an unforgettable album. The lyrics are a bonus if you're fluent in French.

M83-Saturdays=Youth

This album has been in my library for at least a year so I'm pretty surprised at myself for not putting this up earlier. Albeit little more "pop"-ish than M83's previous records, this still has copious amounts of dreamy shoegaze influences to sleep to or listen to on a flight.

Trippy trip....

Black Moth Super Rainbow. Very, very nice psych-rock band. Loads of synth-laden arrangements, very chilled out atmosphere. So I was doing my weekly run of thechiefcommie music blog, which is one fantastic blog, some time ago and I found this. Just dl'ed because I wanted more post-rocky/shoegazy stuffs to compliment my recent discovery of other equally awesome bands such as My Bloody Valentine. Very dreamy and epic-sounding but not within the depressing spectrum as most fuzzy/shoegaze bands. More uplifting and bright with pretty cool lyrics. Ideal summer music, I find.

LSD and the Search for God

Here's a self titled "album" (more like a collection of 5 songs, really) by a shoegaze/noise band from Cali. I don't know why they haven't released any more. For all I know they could have disbanded by now. Anyway, check them out if you're into Thrushes or just fuzzy shoegaze stuff in general.

Now, to fully set this blog into hipster territory, I give you, Deathconciousness. Probably the best piece of music recorded, ever, if you're into shoegaze/new wave. This is a long, involving record, but it's worth every second of your time. Do give it a listen.

Hate me if you will, but I really do think this is one of Neige's best efforts. The female vocals and reverby guitars make up quite a shoegazy atmosphere, but still leaving a little space for the dark, sometimes evil-sounding sequences. Probably my most anticipated album of the year.

Right then, upon exploring the whole shoegaze scene which was, until a few weeks ago, pretty foreign to me, I came upon a band which probably kick-started the whole dream-pop/shoegaze movement, My Bloody Valentine. Confused by many n00bs with Bullet For My Valentine, this Irish 4-piece formed in 1984, released this album in 1991 and split in 1997, only to re-unite in 2007. They are currently on a european tour, just thought you should know.

Anyways, here it is.
