I come bearing apologies....

...yes, I know, we've been inactive for quite some time, so I've decided to make up by introducing a new series of posts which will probably drag on for only a few days (due to my anal hair-ripping experience with the math-rock week). So, you know all those essential records that you know of but haven't really listened to? Well, that's all I'm going to be posting for the next few days. Starting off is the legendary Neil Young's Harvest. Classic? yes indeedy

Hidey-ho!

Yes yes, I am aware that this blog hasn't been updated in a long time. All I can say is that I was in New York and obviously having the time of my life. To make up for things, here's some extra sweet news. Aussie crazies PORTAL are dropping a new album (entitled "Swarth") in October. Here are the links:

The Hidden Hand...

Scott “Wino” Weinrich was faced with a hard choice in the Spring of 2002 after the untimely demise of Spirit Caravan after five years of hard work: go ahead and hang up his guns, or yet again find new blood and continue. Wino picked up the phone, and in the same breath told engineer Bruce Falkinburg about the end of Spirit Caravan and asked him if he would like to get together and jam a bit.

Bruce was stunned when he heard the message: it is not every day someone like Wino calls to see if you want to “jam.” Wino had seen Bruce play a bit while getting tones for earlier recordings, and the two had many conversations during long nights in the studio about Mesoamerican mythology, ancient tube amplifiers, and contemporary politics.

Crust essential

So, absolutely essential split from two legendary hardcore punk/crust bands. No library is complete without this one split. What's that? You say you've heard this brand of crust more often than balls smacking against your ass? I just provide the links, so bear with me.

EDIT: Might be vice versa, now that I think of it.

Merzbow

Merzbow is an experimental music project created in Tokyo in 1979 under the direction of musician Masami Akita. A household name in the world of experimental noise, Akita has released/produced over 200 records since 1980. Links to the few releases that I do have are down below. Enjoy.

EDIT: turns out I've just one release, entitled 1930.

Heavy groovy sludge. One of those bands that are just impossible not to love.

Mindflowers

I've just fulfilled a year-long dream by catching Have Heart live a few days ago at The Underworld, London. Just so happened to be their last ever UK gig.

So, today's post might not appeal to lots of people, as it contains an immense amount of technical wank. But no, this ain't no ordinary wank. It's prog-fusion wank. A Hungarian band with the extraordinarily gay name Mindflowers, surpasses all expectations that I might have had prior to listening to their album Improgressive. I'm really not going to go into detail with this "review", but I will say this. If you have a next-to-null knowledge of fusion and are keen on discovering new genres of music, this a fantastic album to start upon.

Bohren & Der Club of Gore

Yeah, so I've been pretty busy lately and have barely had time to go online so here's my first post in a long time. This is a "black-jazz" act from Germany, very dark and very, very good.
